Italian Wine Scholar - Umbria, Lazio & Molise
Our Italian (IWS) evenings are in-depth tastings on all the key regions and lesser-known regions of Italy. The IWS study and certification program is geared for members of the wine trade and avid Italian wine enthusiasts. We are offering the opportunity to attend single evening sessions of our Italian Wine Scholar course - perfect for those who want to experience an evening of the course before committing to the full course or for anyone who wants to learn more about a specific region in Italy.
Umbria is the ‘green heart’ of Italy thanks to the stunning combination of gentle rolling hills, mountains and valleys covered in woods, pastures, olive groves and of course vineyards. It remains most untouched by urban development. Whilst usually being overshadowed by its Tuscan neighbour, Umbria’s wines are now achieving the international recognition they deserve.
Lazio is defined by Rome, the ancient capital of the western world that shaped the destiny of Italy. It has always had a huge wine market, the hills surrounding the city have been planted to vine for a long time. The viticultural potential of the region is notably high as it’s blessed with ideal climatic conditions, perfect hillside vineyards and distinctive volcanic soils with producers increasing focusing on promising native grapes.
Molise is Italy’s second smallest region but it’s still a force to be reckoned with! As well as its main grape varieties Montepulciano and Trebbiano Abruzzese its own flagship grape – the promising red Tintilia - is making a great name for itself.
On this evening, you will taste at least 8 wines that showcase the different varietals, wine-making styles and terroir of these wine regions.
Who should consider attending this evening? This evening is ideal for those:
- Considering, currently studying or have completed the WSET Level 3 and/or WSET Diploma
- Who hold an enthusiastic interest for the Italian wine industry.
