Eger - A Hungarian wine region with a thousand faces
On this fascinating tasting we will be joined by Tibor Gal Jr from the Gal Tibor Winery who will be introducing you to the esteemed Hungarian wine region of Eger - a cool-climate region on the same latitude as Burgundy with a diverse terroir capable of producing premium quality red and white wines.
Tibor will present variations of the two pre-eminent cuvees from Eger; the famous Bikaver - Bull's Blood red wine as well as the relatively recent Egro Csillag 'Star of Eger' a white wine, which he believes is a fitting match to the Bikaver.
Eger is seeing a new generation of winemarkers that are creating vintages with the latest trends and international markets in mind. Tibor will explore the prevailing philosophy among the vanguard of these winemarkers; that is to move away from trying to highlight the individual grape varieties which go into these two cuvees and focus instead on the wine as an integrated whole, ensuring there are no tough edges - just a perfectly melded, harmonic wine.
