WSET Level 2 Award in Sake (Classroom)

Course Description

The WSET Level 2 Award in Sake covers all the main categories of sake styles and examines the influences of production methods on each different category. The course will also explore elements of sake service for a broad overview of the industry. No prior sake knowledge is required prior to starting this course, so it is suitable for people new to the sake category as well as those wishing to build on the introductory knowledge gained with the WSET Level 1 Award in Sake (NOTE that Level 1 is not a required pre-requisite for Level 2 however). Throughout the course, you will develop analytical tasting skills using the WSET Level 2 sake Structured Approach to Tasting (SAT) while exploring the sake style and quality and linking tasting back to theory.

You will learn how to confidently describe what the general sake categories you have studied taste like. You will also become a competent and confident sake taster and start the journey of learning the links between aroma, taste and touch to the theory of production. You will taste a minimum of 18 sake samples during the course.

This 16-hour course provides fundamental product knowledge and systematic tasting skills. Expect to spend an additional 12 hours on preparation and review outside of the classroom.

Upon successful completion of a 1-hour multiple-choice exam, you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin and will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo. Days 1 and 2 of the course will start at 9:30am and finish at approximately 5:30pm. Please note gates will open 30 minutes before the start of each class.
