Chateauneuf-du-Pape & Gigondas 2013s: Seven Years On
Join us for a winter warming tasting discovering the delights of the 2013 vintage of the Southern Rhone seven years on. The mouthwatering evening will discover nine expressions of this balanced vintage from the famous 'Cru' villages of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas. We will taste through leading estates such as St Cosme, Avril, Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe and Bosquet des Papes.
The 2013 Vintage
The vintage was cooler and dry, therefore the wines show a marked freshness and an ability to be drunk a little younger than the norm. The results are surprising though uneven and so careful selection is paramount. Gigondas is unquestionably great in the 2013 vintage so our Chief Taster Jimmy Smith has selected a few more from this excellent Cru. Success in Châteauneuf-du-Pape was also possible: Vincent Avril at Clos des Papes made a great Châteauneuf but did so by severe pruning. He yielded just 13.5hl/ha, a record low at this estate!
