Perfect Wines for Xmas
Join us on a fantastic festive tasting helping you structure your indulgent tasting schedule over Christmas. From Christmas Eve to Boxing Day we'll help you select the key wines for the right occasion including many of our Wines of the Year award-winners.
Tasting Schedule:
These are the wines on tasting & when we recommend when to tuck into them.
Christmas Eve:
Dinner: Dr. Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Kabinett, Mosel, 2010 & Candido I Satiri Salice Salentino, Puglia, Italy, 2006 (WOYA 2011 Best Euro Red Under £12)
We kick off the tasting with the 'aperitif-day' which is just a taster of what's to come - we don't want to peak too early as there's plenty more to follow over the next two days! We start off with the stunning Loosen Riesling Kabinett which is a real crowd-pleaser and will delight all in the room with wonderful racy acidity, touch of sweetness and low alcohol. To go with the game-dinner of Xmas Eve we'll tuck into the award-winning Salice Salentino with wonderful red berry fruit, spice and gamey texture.
Christmas Day:
Morning: Domaine Carneros 'La Reve' Sparkling, California, 2004 (WOYA 2011 Best Sparkling)
Lunch: Louis Jadot Marsannay, Burgundy, France, 2008 (WOYA 2011 Best Euro Over £12) & Drouhin-Laroze Clos de Vougeot, Burgundy, France, 2004
Pudding: Capezzana Vin Santo, Carmignano, Italy (WOYA 2011 Best Sweet Wine)
To celebrate Christmas morning we'll tuck into our award-winning fizzer, the Carneros 'La Reve' Vintage, whilst opening the pressies! With traditional Xmas lunch we match the complex LJ Marsannay and for the red wine fans the powerful Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru Burgundy (also fantastic with game). The stonkingly-good Vin Santo, winner of our Best Sweet Wine this year and most-highly rated wine too will match the classic Xmas pud.
Boxing Day:
Lunch: Bodegas Porvenir Tannat, Mendoza, Argentina, 2006 (WOYA 2011 Best Unusual Red)
The day with the in-laws - so we need something with some substance! The award-winning wonderful Porvenir Tannat will be the centre-of-attention taking the spotlight off you - but beware, the Tannat packs a punch of alcohol amidst the complexity so pace yourself!
This will be a fun and informative tasting giving you an insight on what to pair with the festive dinners whilst tasting a selection of amazing wines with many of them award-winners from our Wines of the Year Awards.
