Jimmy's Best of Green Spain
Wine school founder (we call him 'Chief Taster') and award-winning wine educator Jimmy Smith travelled out to North Spain in late 2019 discovering the delights of what we call 'Green Spain' including regions such as Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and the Pais Vasco (Basque Country). This tasting is a collection of Jimmy's favourite finds from his travels including many favourites such as Albarino, Godello, Trexiadura, Mencia, Txacoli and much much more!
Jimmy will lead the class through the culture behind these spectacular regions, not only tucking into several world-class hand-picked wines, but listing all the key cities to visit in North Spain, the best restaurants and wine bars. In addition the top sight-seeing hotspots such as the Cantabrian mountain range, the Camino de Santiago and many others will be discovered.
This area, stretching from the French Atlantic border across to Portugal, is a real different part of the Iberian peninsula that is a far cry from the stereotypical image of Spain (think arid sun-drenched desert like conditions). It is called 'Green Spain' as most of the coastline here recieves over 1000mm of rain per year, often up to near double that number in some zones. It's cooler, fresher with decent sunshine, and it's where most Spaniard travel to for their holidays to escape the excessive heat of central, southern and eastern Spain. The character of the wine is moulded by this different climate; there are wonderful fresh and aromatic white wines, and lively spicy reds. It's a truly lovely region to discover, and you will not be disappointed when you sign up!
