Geology Rocks! Terroir and Wine with Mullineux Wines

Wine school founder, Jimmy Smith (Drinks Business Man of the Year 2019, WSG Best Italian Wine Instructor 2018) is a geologist at heart and after researching books such as Alex Maltman’s recently published book "Vineyards, Rocks, & Soils" he was adamant in launching this fascinating evening that will discover how wine's style is shaped by the terroir, namely the soils. Jimmy will present varietals such as Chenin Blanc and Syrah from the iconic Mullineux estate in the Swartland of South Africa. The wines all range from £45 to £60 per bottle.

Through tasting a single variety, such as Syrah or Chenin Blanc, from different soils (Quartz, Granite, Schist and Iron) we will discover the interesting differences of the wines structure (body, tannin, acidity) and flavour/aromas. Soil properties such as mineral content, drainage capability, organic content, heat absorption, light reflection amongst many others all cause grapes to ripen differently and change the overall style of wine.

If you a fascinated by how geology really affects wine then this is the evening for you
