French Wine Scholar - Languedoc, Roussillon, Provence & Corsica

French Wine Scholar - Languedoc, Roussillon, Provence & Corsica

Our French Wine Scholar (FWS) evenings are in-depth tastings on all the key regions and lesser-known regions of France. The FWS study and certification program is geared for members of the wine trade and avid French wine enthusiasts. We are offering the opportunity to attend single evening sessions of our French Wine Scholar course - perfect for those who want to experience an evening of the course before committing to the full course or for anyone who wants to learn more about a specific region in France.

Languedoc, Roussillon, Provence & Corsica

The Languedoc-Roussillon is the largest and most dynamic wine region in France. It actually is one of the largest wine regions in the world! Diverse and fast moving, it is the place where 2000 years of history and tradition combine effortlessly with the contemporary and avant-garde. Exciting and still relatively unknown compared to its more famous neighbors, the region has much to offer to all wine lovers. The evening provides detailed information on the region’s climate, grapes and viticultural practices. It explores the region’s geology, topography and soils, plus explains the specificities of wine production past and present. The program covers all the individual AOCs and IGPs. It enables students to understand and explain the stylistic differences between key AOCs and IGPs wines of the region.

Provence is France’s oldest winemaking region. It is the only region in France and the only region in the world to focus primarily on the production of rosé wine. To reference scale, Provence produces 25 times the volume of rosé as Tavel! With a rosé-producing legacy dating back over 2000 years, Provence has established the benchmark for producing fruity, but stylistically dry rosé. And with the establishment of the Rosé Wine Research and Experimentation Centre in 1999, the only research facility of its kind in the world, Provence further cements its future as the on-going leader in the category. The region has been immortalized through the works of the impressionist artists Van Gogh, Cézanne, Matisse and Picasso and popularized in Peter Mayle’s book “A Year in Provence”. Its cities, Nice, Cannes, Saint Tropez, Arles and Aix, attract visitors from all over the world. And with good reason. Bordering the Mediterranean, Provence is awash in a rich cultural history.

On this evening, you will taste 8-10 wines that showcase the different varietals, wine-making styles and terroir of this iconic wine region.

Who should consider attending this evening? This evening is ideal for those:

  • Considering, currently studying or have completed the WSET Level 3 and/or WSET Diploma
  • Who hold an enthusiastic interest for the French wine industry

Cheeses and meats representative of those served in the region will also be available to enjoy during the tasting.
